Bioclimatism in the Architecture of Le Corbusier: The Millowners Association Building

After the crisis of architecture's internationalism in the 30s, the work of Le Corbusier changed toward a new relation with local culture and environment. By means of the current bioclimatic analysis procedures, his methods, prototypes and works can be analyzed in order to know early approaches to sustainability. This research is focused on Millowners Association Building (Ahmedabad, 1951) as an outstanding work of this period of change, which reveals the environmental functionality of Swiss architect's proposals. Architectural devices like brise-soleil, aerateur or roof garden were only different parts of a comprehensive relation with climate. As a result, both design and construction were defined from a scientific angle, which became the core of an architecture adapted to the environment.
