These are restorations of two Cistercian monasteries with similar settings and characteristics. The passage of time left different marks on them. Carracedo suffered the effect of disentailment after it became private property and was totally abandoned which accelerated its downfall allowing us now to see its different strata. On the other hand, Gradefes, occupied from its foundation by the same religious order, has suffered transformations and new constructions aimed at adapting the monastic use to the times. In both cases, the disappearance of valuable constructive elements can be noticed. The amputations Carracedo has suffered will make a fine orthopedics necessary while in the case of Gradefes what is needed is a constant conservation.
