Groin vaults of asymmetrical hyperbolic paraboloides

The shell groin vaults constructed in previous decades were based on the same principles as old stone and brick groin vaults; that are to say, with identical symmetrical foils. By introducing asymmetries in the shape of the foils, the traditional design can be improved, thus opening up a new realm of formal and spatial possibilities wich allow us to recover and renew this old architectural tradition. The shell constructions wich are described in this article are founded on this idea.
