Abstract

Generally speaking, the studies on the wind in Spain are carried out from the point of view of the feasibility of the exploitation of its energy. In order to achieve this aim it is necessary to observe and quantify the speed, direction and frequency of the winds predominant in each area, since these are the winds which, due to their constancy, allow the exploitation of their energy. Nevertheless, the following study takes a different approach. It tries to analyze the destruction capacity of the wind by means of a statistical treatment of a series of maximum gusts registered in the different climatological stations. The final result is the map of wind hazard by provinces, which represents an initial approximation to the knowledge of wind phenomenon intensity studied through its strongest manifestation.
