d21_system is a prototype for a convertible room built with compatible construction component systems. It consists in:
1- a catalogue of massproduced, fully equipped booths.
2- a bolted steel structure with identical and standardized staircase sections.
3- a wood structure comprising four different frames compatible with the steel structure.
4- three service systems with a fi xed layout where the booths, as well as lighting and all the electrical outlets needed, can be plugged in.
5- wheeled cabinets and sliding panels to divide different areas and uses.
These "open meccanos" take their inspiration from the application of "open industrialization" processes. d21_system was set up, in just two weeks’ time, in the central courtyard at the Madrid fairgrounds for the CONSTRUTEC’04 event.
