Ecological and landscape restoration of the arroyo de los Quiñones. San Sebastián de los Reyes, Madrid

The restoration of the Arroyo (stream) de los Quiñones (San Sebastián de los Reyes) poses a problem whose solution consists in neutralizing the principal sources of its degradation. These sources are: waste water discharges, an urban solid waste dump, situated in the very bed of the stream, and the intensive aggregate extraction which made the stream itself disappear at various points. This article also deals with the recuperation of the surrounding wood in a natural and landscape-friendly way, which would facilitate the access and the walk along the sides of the stream. This would lead to the clearing of other areas of a high ecological value within this municipality.
