Abstract


The objective of this article is to impart the work accomplished by the Brazilian architect João Figueiras Lima, performed with the idea of proposing an industrialized system, quite creative, for the edification of school buildings. The adopted process has the virtue of allying modern technology to material and economical possibilities of the poorest regions in Brazil. Its implantation in Rio de Janeiro was quite successful and several other Brazilian cities are adopting this model. The proposal uses a closed system of prefabrication performed in mortar, and constituted by separated parts of low weight. Its execution avoids expensive equipment and the assembly is manual. In this work the political and economical conditions and the material aspects of the project are firstly explained. Following, the production processes and the assembly steps of the finished product are described.
