Buildings for industry in the industrial revolution

Abstract

This work is the result of the author's interest in finding an answer to a series of doubts about the origins of the industrial constructions. Interest was increased when visiting a large part of the achievements we shall refer to, and from absolutely different points of view, tackling the doctoral thesis work on the subject: «scientific standardization of one plant industrial buildings, using statistical, modular and economic criteria». The work is basically centered on describing and appraising the buildings made during the period 1750-1850, using as conductor, the technological evolution of the energy sources, the materials and constructive forms. Three very clear parts may be differentiated: buildings that have hydraulic energy; buildings with steam installations, and industrial complexes classed as «utopian».
