A-shaped pile, tension bridge on the Rhein, Neuwied

This 485.60 m long bridge on the Rhein, between Andernach-Weissenthurn and Neuwied, is a tension bridge using a slightly trapezoidal shaped box beam as a deck. The tension ropes are anchored to an A-shaped pile whose main feature is its being positioned lengthwise relative to the bridge. With the purpose of causing the minimum traffic disturbance, the bridge was built some 16.25 m upstream from the highway and then moved this distance down-stream to align it with the traffic lanes.
