The quality of a dwelling

Abstract

The two foremost factors defining the quality or standard of living are the «habitat», or natural geographical medium, and the dwelling or protective shell against the ecological rigors and isolation for the enjoyment of periods of relaxation with the family after the individual working day. This second consideration is treated in the following lines by José María de Soroa y Pineda. Dr. in Agricultural Science, professor and journalist, who has contrasted the vicissitudes of building through bis extensive experience in professional life and as a traveller. Both on account of his teaching authority, theoretical and practical, which he initiated by publishing a treatise on agricultural constructions, as well as through study, including the most substantial book in his opinion —which is, «reviewing one's one road in life»— he perceives with great sensitivity the evolution undergone by dwellings, through science and art, fused in techniques of architecture and building, made a reality by the administration. He points out particularly how some state bodies collaborate in their improvement in a global vision, and proposes future action, underlining as urgent a legal and social regulation of the ground.
