Structure of the Columbus Towers Madrid - Spain

This article describes the general guidelines for planning the concrete structure of this unique building which was necessary in view of the site's special requirements and maximum utilization of the resulting floors. In the first place, it deals with the specific problem, which is the suspended towers and their résistance, with the basic elements being studied separately: nucleus, upper head or suspension platform, tierods, ground floors and formwork movement. In the second place, the solution adopted for the underground part is taken into consideration and finally the article explains the intermediate zone foreseen in the initial project, although not in its final scope, which is the only part which, for justified reasons, was solved using a metallic structure.
