Theatre in Derby - Great Britain

This small local theatre, which is used alternatively as a cinema, is an architectural unit whose main nucleus is made up of the auditorium. It has besides: a studio, restaurant, two bar and cafeteria services, and different shop premises, forming as a whole a gallery for pedestrians only. The car park is located in the lower level. The simple rectangular volumes seen from outside contain curved floors defined by the functional needs of the auditorium, giving rise to the creation of suitable atmospheres in the antechambers, in which the exact dimensioning of the spaces stands out. This gives a balance which makes it possible, for example in the cafeteria, to obtain an intimate, pleasant and integrated atmosphere, characteristic of the best British architecture. The finish of the indoor part is subdued, the use mainly standing out of bearer wells in visible brickwork, chosen through being easily adapted to curved ground plants.
