Group housing - Haddenham - England

The complex has been designed to avoid the irregular groupings often caused by real estate speculation. Respecting the traditional architecture of the small English village where these houses are situated, the architect adapts this new construction to the special traits of Haddenham, characterized by thick clay walls surrounding the houses whereby a personal atmosphere is created. The unit has a balanced formal variety with sicping roofs and overhangs. The practical and functional distribution scheme of the interior situates the kitchen dining room in the centre of the villa, so there exists a direct communication with the other parts of the house. The finishings have a sober elegance thanks to their simple and economical materials, such as exposed roof timbers and painted concrete block walls, taking maximum advantage of the structure itself.
