Scientific Information in the 80's

This article reproduces the study submitted by the Director of the ICYT, and presented in June 1976 —with eight others— in the symposium celebrated in Washington, in the «National Academy of Sciences» on the «Supply and Demand of Scientific Information in the decade of the 80's». The process of scientific activity during the last 45 years is discussed, with successive predominance of: basic research, applied investigation and scientific information. It also speaks of the growing capacity of storing data and the progressive facility and economy in transmitting knowledge, by automatic means and «on-line» systems, making special mention of the necessary effort and international collaboration which requires the previous presence of perfectly organized and coordinated national speakers.
