Abstract

The enlargements of the Management Annexes of the firm «Nordwestdeutsche Kraftwerke, AK», were different in design due to their different locations and specific urban and architectural conditions. In the first case, the already existing building, known as the «hanging house» had an entity of its own which made it impossible to add an annex to it. It was then decided to build a new separate pavilion, about 20 m away, which would be joined to the first one by means of a corridor. The structure is of reinforced concrete, with two storeys and a basement, surrounded by gardens. In Oldenburg, the Management Building was situated in the centre of the city, right next to a park and it proved to be relatively easy to enlarge it, whereby the existing square got enclosed. The result came to represent a distinguished new approach, very much in accordance with the functions of the firm. The architectural configuration is sober, with classical lines.
