Ski Jump Slope, in Oberstdorf - Austria

This graceful sports construction —the largest of its kind in the world— was made with lightweight prestressed concrete. The 22 m main mass is firmly anchored in the rock and supports the outward arm which has a horizontal projection of 57.80 m. Through the inside of its box section, 2.50 m wide with a variable height of from 3.45 m to 10.25 m, there is a stariway and parallel gliding cabin. An independent deck resting on 5 vertical supports, all of lightweight reinforced concrete, extends from the lower part. After detailed study and careful calculation, the maximum advantage, both as to use and finances, was made of this material. The following companies participated in this construction: Dyckerhoff and Widmann and Alfred Kunz and Co., the Horle Architectural Office of Oberstdorf and the engineers Knittel, Kupfer and Jelinek, with Dr. Werner, all from Munich.
