An elegant and daring crosswalk has solved the problem of pedestrian inaccessibility to three sectors in the site mentioned above. This construction consists of a main passage that branches into two curves and is based on two ramps with a maximum gradient of 11% which results in a winding staircase at two ends. The thick network of all types of utilities that run under the Plaza de las Glorias made for difficult footing implantation as wide spans were called for. To reduce lintel extensions, it was decided to use a suspension system with a single footing from which three straight cable systems issued. Each of these cables corresponds to one of the crosswalk branches. The article describes the difficulties that this project entailed and the solutions that were found for this highly interesting engineering construction.
