In the brief period of two months a new bridge over the Rhine has been constructed to substitute one which collapsed on August 1970, because of the undermining of one of its pillars. On November 28 1970 the new bridge was opened to the traffic, including trucks of up to 3.5 Kp, and on December 7th of the same year vehicles of up to 26 Kp could use it. In the construction of this bridge, for the first time, use has been made of cylindrical, prefabricated, precast thin shells. This project is of special significance because of its operational importance, since it connects Lichtenstein and Switzerland; the exceptionally short time of its construction; and the new type of deck used.
