Saint Martin’s Church at Samen, Switzerland

Round the nave of the main church building, which is elliptical in platform, the chapels and confession boxes are placed radially. The chapels are located on the inside of the church, and open on to it: these entrances add to the internal architectural composition of the church. The public choir communicates with the main nave, and the choir of the friars is more directly related with the altar. This church, which is part of a Benedictine Order convent was built to meet the needs both of the fathers, and of the novices, and can be used simultaneously by both.
