The Empresa Nacional Eléctrica de Córdoba, S. A. has built near Córdoba the Puente Nuevo power station, to take advantage of the local coal, mined in the district of Peñarroya, Bélmez and Espiel, which is difficult to export. In addition to the construction difficulties which have had to be overcome, the power station is especially significant because it has been fitted with Spanish machinery, including the electrical and steam generators. This design has been followed by the construction of the power station at Almería and two additional power plants at San Juan de Dios, in Palma de Mallorca. All these installations are now in working order.
