New Headquarters for Rolex S. A., at Geneva, Switzerland

Abstract

This building has a central administrative nucleus and two adjoining wings, which house the workshops. It has been designed in accord with a square modulus, of 6 m side. The design seeks to meet a number of essential needs. From the working point of view, it had to have adequate daylinght and artificial illumination, constant controlled humidity, absence of dust, and climatic conditions to enable delicate and careful work to be kept up during long periods. Technically, it required adequate power supplies, compressed air, vacuum facilities, a good communication system, alarms, and accurate clocks in most rooms. In addition to achieving the necessary flexibility, the architects have succeeded in designing a building that expresses, indoors and outdoors, the qualities of efficiency and dignity that reflect the spirit of the firm.
