Abstract

The difficulties involved in the use of traditional formwork in the case of certain types of prestressed bridges have led to the adoption of new methods, to overcome these difficulties, though retaining or improving the existing standars of safety, cost and speed. The launching devices seem to meet these needs and are being used with increasing success, particularly in German motor road bridges of all types, of a variety of spans and resting on many kinds of soils: sometimes under the most adverse conditions.
