Fisac’s oeuvre has traditionally been defined in terms of its individualism, its non-association with any school or movement whatsoever. A deeper analysis of one of his best known lines of research, the hollow forms of prestressed concrete (his famous “bones”), reveals a host of engineers, practitioners and businessmen united around a common core of friendship and ingenuity whose work crystallized in an evolutionary process interesting in its own right.
This text is, therefore, a tribute not only to Miguel Fisac, but to all those who participated in this story, which lasted a mere ten years (the nineteen sixties): a story of risk, success and failure, where the architect often stood in solitude in the midst of a densely populated circle of engineers, quantity surveyors, contractors and inventors.
