Portable ultrasonic measuring instrument

As final stage after a number of tests to determine the propagation velocity of ultrasonic waves in concrete, a new miniaturized transistorised apparatus is described, which may serve to carry out auscultations at the working site, on concrete masses no thicker than 2 ms. The recurrence frequency of the equipment is 100 Hz, and the resonating frecuency of the receivers is in the region of 40.000 Hz. Its three recording bands encompass the magnitudes of 250, 625 and 1.000 microseconds. All these can be easily read from a simple microamperimeter. The most significant features of this new apparatus are its small weight and volume, and its independence from the normal electricity supply.
