Abstract

The investigation of the redistribution mechanisms in structures is motivated by the need to find out the ultimate load capacity of these structures and thus establish accurately the factor of safety, i.e., the ratio between the ultimate and the working load. That is why the classical method of analysis, which has been so useful during many years, has been recently revised, since it does not give any information on the margin between the state of rupture and the normal functional situation. This article is simply a brief introduction to the problem of the redistributions of the forces acting on the structures, when the loading approaches the ultimate strength.
