The author describes a representative section of the new British motor roads. He states briefly the main features of the design, including its topographical and structural characteristics, and gives data on the magnitude and special aspects of the project. The significance of many of the solutions adopted for a motor road carrying a large traffic load is specially emphasized. Attention is given to the pavement construction, its thickness and the materials of the various layers, as well as to the drainage system.
