When we planed to solve a great roof with a tubular grid bymeans of rigid joints instead of pined connections we thoughtthat the main problem could be local tension concentrationsand then proposed detailed analysis as well as model test todetermine if the plastic concentration around the weldedunions was dangerous.
In this paper we discus the problems found in theconstruction, welding and stress distribution studied bydifferent methods, mainly by Finite Element Method and realscale tests.
Finally the grid really built confirmed our previsions and wearrived at the conclusion of the good behaviour of the selectedmesh.
