House of Culture, in Cuenca

Abstract

This building in Cuenca, known as «Casa de la Cultura», has three storeys, a semibasement, and a smaller fourth floor. Heating and other services are housed in the basement. The first floor is occupied with a children's reading room, an extensive lounge, joined to the exhibition hall and the stairs, and the reception hall. The doorman's house is located in the Western corner. The index cards and records room, general and magazine reading rooms, and director's office take up the second floor. The library extends into the third floor, which also includes a board room, the director's home and secondary facilities. The fourth floor has been allocated to the Centre for Research of the Town of Cuenca. As an annexe there is a tower, with six floor levels, which though independently organised, is connected with each of the floors of the main building, and serves as a book store, with a capacity for 7000 books per storey.
