Abstract


In the new planning of Hannover, a new elevated roadway has been provided, to connect the Königsworther place with the Westtangente motor road. This elevated road is built on a prestressed concrete palisade which is 360 m long and forms 17 spans, whose mean length is 22 m. The road runs on a curve, and there are two dilation joints, separating the structure into three sections. The deck is prestressed, and rests on portal frames, with inclined columns, whose top cross members, also prestressed, cantilever 1.24 ms on each side of the columns. The longitudinal prestressing cables have been given a load of 116 tons per cable, and the transversal ones, spaced every 0.75 m, carry a load of 57 tons per cable. This project was finished very rapidly, thanks to the magnificent auxiliary facilities. The concrete was transported from the mixing plant to the site, about 200 m away, by pneumatic pumps. A special feature of this project is that the lower ends of the columns rest on the foundations by means of sets of roller bearings, which are carefully greased.
