Abstract

In order to exploit industrially the aggregates to be found in substantial quantities near the river Aare, Switzerland, a station has been constructed in which the aggregates will be classified. Concrete will then be made at a nearby building, to be sold commercially. It is estimated that there are about 2 million cubic metres of suitable aggregate material available for exploitation. The design of these installations has been prepared in collaboration with the firm which supplied the equipment so that the resulting project fully meets with the functional demands. The building is divided into four independent units, which are closely integrated in their operational use. The main item for the transport of aggregates is a tubular metal bridge, easy to assemble, and to adapt to the varying positions of the quarry face. The total length of this bridge is 120 ms. The main part of the building includes the housing of the installations and two groups of silos. On each side of the silos roadways have been provided to be utilized by the trucks that take the aggregates to their various destinations.
