Abstract

This paper informs Spanish technicians who are interested in problems of standardisation on the steps taken by the International Standard Organization (ISO) to establish the ISO Recommendations. Reference is specially made to the method of work of the ISO/TC 74 Committee, whose duty is to undertake the standardisation of hydraulic cements. A brief account is given of the work done in the field of cements, and a detailed analysis is given of the problem involved in the standardisation of gypsum: what has been done so far, and what it is planned to do in the future. In the last part of the paper the author describes the present state of the gypsum industry in Spain, and he gives the reasons, which in his view, explain why it has not attained the same development as in the rest of Europe.
