Resistance welding in the construction of metal structures

Spot resistance welding procedure has been used for a long time for the construction of light weight elements in metal structures. Very recently, this procedure has begun to be successfully used for joining thicknesses adding up to 40 or 50 mm. Thus a new joining method has appeared in the fabrication of steel structures. In this paper, the author studies the principles of spot resistance welding as well as those of the welding machines which are employed in this a technique when used for large thicknesses. A thorough review is also presented on the welded seam layout and the weldability conditions for the steels. The paper describes also some constructions where resistance welding has been used.
