Abstract

A defi nition of the durability of a constructive element from its vulnerability is being proposed. In order to do so, these two basic concepts are analyzed, together with constructive function, external actions and quality. Some empiric mathematical formula are established to define durability from vulnerability, and vulnerability ad its variations are precisely described from the pathological processes and the derived constructive failures that can affect to construction materials and building elements, while these failures are described grouped in different families. Finally a case study of durability from vulnerability is developed referring to stone cladding elements.
