A pesar de las sucesivas ampliaciones que ha venido realizando la firma comercial de productos de amianto-cemento Eternit en su factoría de Niederurnen, y como consecuencia del natural aumento de su producción, había llegado un momento en que sus instalaciones resultaron insuficientes para poder atender las demandas de sus usuarios, seis veces superiores a las del año 1939.
