En 1940, los campos de golf de Idlewild ocupaban un lugar tranquilo junto a las plácidas aguas de la bahía de Jamaica y a 15 millas del corazón de Manhattan. Hoy, al cabo de veinte años, esta tranquilidad del deporte del "Stick" se ha transformado en vertiginosa actividad, y las calles por las que, antes circulaba lentamente una bolita en busca de su agujero, se han convertido en amplias pistas que reciben y despiden un avión cada treinta segundos.
