El edificio 320 Oakdale Building fué proyectado como bloque de apartamentos de lujo, distribuyéndose tres por planta. Todos disfrutan de bellas vistas sobre él lago Michigan y el parque Lincoln. Las Ordenanzas de la ciudad de Chicago exigen que todos los edificios de nueva construcción estén provistos de aparcamiento para el 40 por 100 de los apartamentos. Si los soportes hubieran llegado hasta la planta baja no hubiera habido sitio suficiente para el estacionamiento de los coches. Por eso los arquitectos eliminaron los pilares en la tercera planta, transfiriendo la carga a vigas transversales voladizas que reposan sobre un pilar único de gran sección.
