El tercer tipo de puente romano que anunciábamos en los capítulos anteriores se define por su función, no por su época. Corresponde al puente de vano único o, por lo menos, único importante, que, al ser de medio punto, alza considerablemente la calzada sobre el río, aunque arranque tomando como cuerda el nivel mismo de aguas medias. Al establecer las rasantes de enlace con el camino antes y después del cauce resulta el perfil fuertemente alomado, que se ha tomado como típicamente medieval, aunque creemos que los puentes agrupados en este capítulo muestran su origen romano.
