Oscar Niemeyer ha resuelto este bloque de viviendas con originalidad de fachadas y acertada composición de volúmenes. Su emplazamiento, en la Plaza de la República de Río de Janeiro, ha sido felizmente aprovechado al resolver su alzado principal a ella con gran diafanidad, alternando las superficies acristaladas y paneles de piezas prefabricadas perforadas. El cuerpo central se eleva airoso sobre los laterales, más bajos, apoyándose todo el conjunto sobre una base de apariencia mas sólida —la zona comercial—, cuyo cuerpo superior, liso y blanco, está monótonamente modulado por una serie de pequeñas ventanas. El edificio se destina a viviendas. En él se distribuyen 54 apartamentos, todos ellos de tipo Duplex, con absoluta separación entre las zonas nobles y de servicio. De sus 12.800 m2 de superficie construida, sólo 9.940 m2 son de área útil.
