Abstract


The new Terminal Area for Madrid-Barajas is now developing such an intenses works to execution. The 470,000 m2 Terminal is the centrepiece of an ambitious construction programme which will completely transform the existing airport with three new runways (one already in operation), new access roads, an extension to the Metro (with service direct to the new city centre transport interchange that will include airline check-in facilities), a rail connection, new multi-storey parking for 9000 cars and a midfield satellite (of a further 275,000 m2) linked to the terminal by a and a tracked transit system in a tunnel with space for the automated Baggage Handling system as well as vehicle access.
