Abstract

Bamboo is an essential potential ally for humans in the current situation of climate emergency and systemic crisis. Its transformation to obtain technical products generates emissions and energy consumption that do not exist when bamboo is used in its natural form. Through the analysis of cases (all developed by the architecture and urban planning studio Bambusa Espinosa, based in Madrid, Spain) categorised according to the dimensions of the basic structural modules in each case (one-dimensional, two-dimensional and three-dimensional), the methods of fabrication and installation are studied. As these are non-conventional construction systems based on a little-known material, the manufacturing processes, the necessary training of professional personnel, as well as the graphic expression materials required, are as relevant as the final built result.
