Abstract

The objective of the BARNAMIL project is to make the population aware of the advantages of the domestic use of water heating systems, as well as their environmental and social benefits. BARNAMIL studied the hurdles found by the solar thermal systems in the energy market: deficient information, economic, legal and technical difficulties Thus, most of the population knows nothing about solar thermal systems, or believes that they are uneconomical. There is not an easy solution to this problem, but BARNAMIL works to overcome these difficulties. It carries out information campaigns among the population to let them know about the possibilities of this energy. All important target group are NGOs, since they tend to be already aware of this subject. Barnamil also decided to take over the role of mediator between users and manufacturers, therefore contributing to the development of the market. With this objectives the BARNAMIL Office was established, there, possible users are informed, and concession of subsidies is provide d and made easier. Barnamil has been working in Barcelona since 1997 and has achieved an increase in the population's awareness about the relationship between energy use, climatic change and their environmental and social impact.
