This article aims to give a general idea on a new kind of European technical documents which are been issued in the last decade of this century in the construction field. The article goes from the origin, initial program, further developments and the last evolution towards the European Standardization Committee CEN. It also deals with the future of this brand new European standards and with the problems arising when they are been adopted as standards with an special mention to Spain where they have to meet the national regulations in the same field.
