The restoration of the parish church of San Dionisio (Jerez de la Frontera, Spain). Grout injection as a repair method for masonry structures

San Dionisio Parish church is one of the main pieces of heritage in the city of Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz, Spain). In the beginning of the 21st century, some columns of the church showed symptoms of damage by compressive stresses. Due to this fact, the temple was closed to the public. In 2005 a complete research began in order to find the causes of the damage. As a result, a restoration plan was proposed. The applied method for repairing the structure was grout injection with the sleeve port pipe. It has the advantage of the higher pressures that can be applied when compared with other previously documented injection techniques. In this way, a better homogenization and improvement of the masonry mechanical properties are achieved. This paper describes the research carried out to identify the causes of the damage, the repair of the structure and its effectiveness.
