The aim of this article is to give a general view of the most important aspects to be taken into account in the environmental restoration of areas affected by the construction of a highway. The first aspect to be considered in the whole restoration is the morphology resulting from the work, which should be checked for adequacy. In case it proves inadequate the surface should be remodeled in order to achieve a relief as much in accordance with the surroundings as possible. Maximum stability should also be pursued. Further on, it is convenient to improve the substratum to favour the plants' rooting. Finally, plants should be introduced, taking care of the selection of the species and the design used.
