French Highway A-63 - France

The main reason for constructing this highway has been the overload of the National Road No. 10 that is no longer able to absorb the present traffic between Bordeaux and the border of Bidasoa, particularly during the summer months. The highway is being built phasewise due to its length and due to the lack of public funds. The first phase described in this article will solve the problem of one of the most affected zones: that of the neighbourhood of Bayone and S. Juan de Luz up to the Spanish border. This section was begun more than three years ago and is expected to be completed t>y 1979. It is approximately 65 km long and is subdivided into 7 stretches of different dimensions. The execution of each one of these implies all kinds of problems in view both of the changing nature of the ground as well as the geographical structural projections that have to be solved for the work by means of for instance overhead crossings, bridges, tunnels and covered passages.
