Abstract

In its general modernisation program, the S.N.C.F. has included the extension and separate handling of traffic at the Paris-Austerlitz station. Local trains give rise to frequent interferences with long distance services, and consequently the former have been provided with an entirely separate undeground station. This article describes the many difficulties that have arisen in carrying out this large project, as well as the methods of overcoming them. The project, whose cost is about 65 million francs and is programed to take 45 months in completing, is being done by the Fougerolle and Batignolles Contractors Associated.
