The intervention project for Nueva Cerámica de Orio (New Ceramic of Orio) designed by Luis Tolosa in 1940 is one of the most recognised rationalist works in the industrial architecture in Gipuzkoa. Its iconic surrounding has made it into an undeniable reference site with a modernity image that industrialists in Gipuzkoa were looking for their factories during the post-war era. Nevertheless, the main achievement of this solution lies in how the project defines a unique answer which comprehends all the productive elements that already existed in the factory. The purpose of this analysis is to study the way Luis Tolosa integrates every pre-existing structure in the new factory, in a single modern building, thanks to the new technique of the reinforced concrete. A structural technology which in his project for the Nueva Cerámica in Orio achieves the required prominence of a real rationalist architecture.
