In the Campana region in southern Italy; the Apennine Mountains, Vesuvius and a coastline with a changing profile, share the same territory. An aqueduct of Roman origin has allowed the conduction of water and the flourishing of settlements along its path in the coastal area of the Gulf of Naples and Pozzuoli. The demand for water in the cities and Roman villas, have determined the scale of the pipeline, among the largest in section and length in Europe. Throughout its route there is the recycling of the previous infrastructures and the need to excavate cisterns under a consolidated urban area, such as Naples. All this has favored the unique characteristics in geometry and constructive solutions. The objective of this research is to describe the elements that make up the hydraulic infrastructure that distributes water throughout a territory solely by the action of gravity.
